Khairul Islam Sajib, the son of Narayanganj-3 BNP Member of Parliament Azharul Islam, has been released from custody.
Following an interrogation, authorities handed him over to his family on Sunday night after he signed a formal undertaking.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter on Monday. Sajib faces allegations of demanding extortion from several industrial organizations in his local area.
Following government orders, Narayanganj District Police, with assistance from the Detective Branch (DB), took Sajib into custody in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon. He was then transported to the DB office located on Minto Road.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division Niaz Mehedi said, “There were some complaints against Sajib. He was questioned regarding those matters and released upon providing an undertaking. The verification of the allegations is ongoing.”
Jubodal expelled Sajib from the organization, including his primary membership, citing clear evidence of involvement in various irregularities. Jubodal Central Executive Committee Vice President Nurul Islam Sohel confirmed the matter.
The press release stated, “The party will not take responsibility for any misdeeds of expelled individuals.”
Moreover, the organization directed leaders and activists at all levels of Jubodal to avoid maintaining any organizational ties with him.
