The newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-Ul-Azim, has been decorated with his rank badge. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and outgoing Navy Chief Admiral M. Nazmul Hasan jointly pinned the rank badge of Vice Admiral on Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim at a ceremony held today (Thursday) morning at the Prime Minister's Office in the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka Cantonment. Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Roni confirmed the information.

During the ceremony, the Prime Minister congratulated the newly appointed Navy Chief. On behalf of the Bangladesh Navy, the new Navy Chief expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister's Defence Adviser, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. A.K.M. Shamsul Islam; Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan; Army's Quartermaster General Lieutenant General Md. Shaheenur Rahman; Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman; Prime Minister's Military Secretary Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq; and Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.

Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-Ul-Azim joined the Bangladesh Navy on January 1, 1987, and received his commission in the Executive Branch in 1989. He completed his initial training with distinction in the Royal Malaysian Navy. In addition to receiving higher education and military training both at home and abroad, he obtained a PhD degree in Maritime Governance.

Over a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades, he has served in various important command, staff, and training positions in the Bangladesh Navy with exceptional skill and professionalism. He has held key posts including Commander of Chattogram Naval Area, Commander of Dhaka Naval Area, Commander of Submarines, and Commandant of the Bangladesh Naval Academy. Additionally, he served as Director of Naval Operations and Director of Naval Plans at Naval Headquarters, and also commanded various warships and naval bases.

Furthermore, Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-Ul-Azim served in important roles in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions in Lebanon and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Most recently, during his tenure as Bangladesh's Ambassador to Oman, he played a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Oman and in ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates there.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions over a nearly 40-year distinguished career, he has been decorated with various medals and honours, including the Navy Medal (NBP), Naval Proficiency Medal (NPP), and the National Integrity Award.
