Storms may hit 10 regions, rain in Dhaka: BMD

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said rain may occur in Dhaka and storms could strike 10 regions across the country.

According to the BMD weather forecast for the six hours starting from 7 am Thursday, the sky may remain cloudy to partly overcast. Rain or thundershowers may occur. Winds are expected to blow from the south or southeast at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour and day temperatures might see a slight increase.

At 6 am, the temperature in Dhaka was 26.2 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 91 percent and the minimum temperature stands at 25.8 degrees Celsius. Over the last 24 hours, Dhaka recorded 30 millimeters of rainfall.

Another forecast, covering the period from 5 am to 1 pm, said, “Temporary gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour from the south or south-east, along with rain or thundershowers, may move over the regions of Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet.”

River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.

Earlier, a bulletin issued on Wednesday evening said by 6 pm Thursday, light to moderate heavy rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds may occur in most places across the Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, and in many places across the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

Moreover, heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in parts of the Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions and day and night temperatures may decrease slightly.
