Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance will hold a rally in Dhaka on Tuesday, to demand justice for the enforced disappearances and killings committed during the Awami League regime.
The event coincides with the anniversary of the Awami League, a party whose activities are prohibited.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad confirmed the matter in an emergency press conference at the party’s central office in Moghbazar on Monday.
The rally is scheduled for 5 pm in Bijoynagar, Dhaka and will feature leaders from the alliance. Moreover, the alliance announced nationwide protest marches and rallies across all districts for 4 July.
Hamidur said, “The culture of impunity is still ongoing. Efforts are being made to bring back fascism. The trial for the July uprising has not yet taken place; this judicial process has been kept slow.”
He emphasized that the government must prevent the Awami League from conducting any programs.
Hamidur added, “It is the government’s responsibility to stop the programs of the prohibited organization Awami League. If the government cannot prevent the rise of fascism, the 11-party alliance will stop it together with the people of the country.”
Regarding the 4 July district-level programs, Hamidur noted that they would focus on justice for disappearances and murders, while also protesting the rise in commodity prices and the current law and order situation.
