Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire, a senior US official told Reuters, adding that the truce took effect at 4:00 pm local time on Friday.
The official said: “Hezbollah and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire.”
He added that negotiators from the United States and Qatar finalized the agreement with assistance from Iran.
“Following the exchange of fire earlier today, we understand that Israel and Hezbollah are now under a ceasefire,” the official said.
The announcement comes after renewed clashes between the two sides raised fears of a wider regional escalation. The latest agreement is seen as a potential step toward halting the fighting and reducing tensions in the region.
