US President Donald Trump is set to hold a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Friday to make a final decision on a possible agreement with Iran, according to a post he shared on Truth Social.
In the post, Trump outlined several key conditions tied to the proposed agreement. These include a commitment from Iran never to develop nuclear weapons, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the removal of naval mines planted in maritime routes, and the transfer and destruction of Iran’s highly enriched uranium under US supervision.
Trump claimed the United States had already destroyed several naval mines at sea and said Iran would quickly remove the remaining ones. He also stated that the US naval blockade would be lifted.
He further said that no money will change hands until further notice, adding that both sides had reached understandings on several other comparatively less significant issues.
“I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination” Trump wrote in the post.
Multiple sources also indicated that Washington and Tehran had reached a principle-level understanding to extend the current ceasefire for another 60 days, although neither side has officially announced the move.
US Vice President JD Vance said Trump has not yet given final approval for the ceasefire extension.
Meanwhile, Iranian news agency Tasnim News Agency, citing a source familiar with the negotiations, reported that although discussions had advanced significantly, the terms of the ceasefire had not yet been fully finalized.
Iranian local media outlets also said no agreement would take effect before an official announcement from Tehran. According to the reports, a unilateral declaration by Trump alone would not be enough to enforce the ceasefire.
