In the first three months after the BNP government took office following the February national election, 137 women were reportedly victims of rape. Among them, 91 were children, accounting for 63 percent of the total cases.
The statistics were published by the Crisis Documentation Centre (CRIDO), covering the period from February 18, 2026, to May 20, 2026.
The report is based on data compiled from Ain o Salish Kendra, Odhikar, and the Crisis Documentation Centre, using media reports as the primary source of information.
According to the data, the highest number of child rape cases occurred in the first 20 days of May. Among adult women (18 years and above), 15 cases were recorded in March. Overall, during this three-month period, 91 children and 46 adult women were victims of rape. In addition, there were 22 attempted rape cases and 21 cases where victims were raped and then murdered.
In a statement, CRIDO administrative officer Siddiq Faruq said that on May 19, an 8-year-old child was raped and killed in Pallabi, Dhaka, which sparked nationwide outrage. He added that the government had quickly assured justice following the incident. He also called for ensuring justice for all victims of rape cases, both during the current administration and in the past.
