BSF Fires at Sylhet Border, BGB Returns Fire

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) responded immediately with gunfire after Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire in the Sylhet border area. Authorities tightened security along the border following the incident. The exchange took place on Monday afternoon in the Sonarhat border area under Gowainghat Upazila, which falls under the operational jurisdiction of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB). BGB Headquarters confirmed the incident on Tuesday through a press release.
The statement said no casualties were reported in the incident. It added that the border area remains calm and stable.
The press release further stated that BGB remains on maximum alert to counter any provocative or unexpected situation along the border.
Sylhet Sector Commander Colonel Mohammad Salahuddin said authorities immediately enforced strict security measures along the border after the exchange of fire. He added that surveillance and patrol activities have been intensified.
