India’s Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to erect a pillar in violation of international law in Lalmonirhat. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intervened on the spot and stopped the activity, after which BSF personnel withdrew.
The incident took place on Thursday at the Kalsimukh BOP area in Patgram.
According to BGB, they received information that BSF was attempting to erect a pillar near international pillar No. 806 in violation of border regulations. BGB members from Kalsimukh BOP rushed to the spot and stopped any construction activity within 150 yards of the border. The BSF personnel then halted their work and left the area.
Confirming the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Naziur Rahman, commander of the Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB), said there is no scope for any construction within 150 yards of the border. He added that BGB immediately intervened after receiving the information and stopped the attempt.
He further said that a meeting was held at the sector commander level over the issue and a formal protest was lodged.
