A new political and social party has emerged, centered around a phrase uttered by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech on August 15. An Instagram account named "Dimagi Naxal Party" has caught attention within just a few days of its debut.
By Monday (August 17), the account had already surpassed 1.81 lakh followers. Meanwhile, a similarly named X (formerly Twitter) account has also gathered several thousand followers.
The incident commenced from the Modi's Independence Day address at Delhi's Red Fort on August 15. While speaking about the central government's success against the Maoist armed movement, Modi said that the country has made significant progress in combating armed Naxals active in forests. However, his speech introduced the phrase "Dimagi Naxal" (literally "Intellectual Naxal"). He claimed, "Though the influence of armed Naxals has diminished, some people who still believe in their ideology are waiting for opportunities."
Immediately after, a heated debate erupted on social media. Many prominent figures criticized Modi's remark and called themselves "proud Dimagi Naxals." On the other hand, the Instagram account "Dimagi Naxal Party" featured the tagline: "Think | Research | Resist." The founder's identity was listed as "A Dimagi Indian," and the co-founder as "56 Inch ka" (a reference to Modi's often-cited chest size). The actual founders or administrators of the account have not yet been publicly disclosed.
The initiative did not stop at Instagram. An X account named "Dimagi Naxal Janta Party" was also created. Reports indicate that several well-known figures—including Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, Dhruv Rathee, Kunal Kamra, Prakash Raj, and fact-checker Mohammed Zubair—are among those following the account.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the organization claimed on X that their Instagram account had already come under cyberattacks. A post questioned whether their voice could be silenced. At the same time, the Dimagi Naxal group declared themselves followers of Bhagat Singh.
The political controversy over Modi's remark has also intensified. Congress leader P. Chidambaram publicly called himself a "proud Dimagi Naxal." Other Congress leaders have strongly criticized the Prime Minister's choice of words. As a result, a political phrase from the Red Fort speech has quickly found its way into social media satire, protest, and political debate.
