As the 2026 World Cup approaches, Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos has drawn attention with a striking remark. When asked which Argentine player he would like to see in the Brazil national team, the former Selecao left-back named Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez without hesitation.
According to Roberto Carlos, Enzo’s style of play fits well with the current identity of the Brazil squad. The 2002 World Cup winner said, “Enzo Fernandez is outstanding. He controls the ball exceptionally well and helps forwards get more opportunities. That is the identity of Argentine football.”
Roberto Carlos’ praise comes as no surprise. Born in 2001, the midfielder has become a key figure in coach Lionel Scaloni’s setup. With his ability to dictate play, deliver passes, and contribute to attacks, Enzo has emerged as an indispensable presence in the midfield of the reigning world champions.
Alongside Enzo, the Brazilian legend also praised Lionel Messi. He said the 39-year-old superstar’s presence at the 2026 World Cup would be special for football fans. “Messi has extraordinary talent and represents South American football. Enjoy this tournament, as it may be his last World Cup,” he added.
Commenting on Brazil’s prospects at the 2026 World Cup, Roberto Carlos said that not being among the top favorites could work in Brazil’s favor. He also emphasized the importance of Neymar, who has recently returned from injury. Brazil have been placed in Group C alongside Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland for the tournament.
