Heavy rain likely as low-pressure forms over Bay

A low-pressure system is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas within 24 hours, with a possibility of further intensification. If favorable conditions persist, it could potentially develop into a cyclone. However, meteorologists advise waiting a few more days to gain clarity on how the system will gather strength and the precise direction it will move.

Assistant Meteorologist Kazi Jebunnesa said, "We are not explicitly calling it a cyclone just yet, as mentioning a cyclone can create unnecessary panic among the public. For now, we are indicating that the low-pressure system likely to form and it carries a risk of further condensing and intensifying."

"Even if the low-pressure system eventually turns into a cyclone, it is likely to cross toward the coasts of Odisha or West Bengal. The risk of a major impact on Bangladesh remains low, though precipitation across the country may increase significantly as a result," she added.

Highlighting precautionary measures, Kazi Jebunnesa added, "We keep a close watch on maritime conditions. Considering fishing trawlers, boats, and naval operations in the sea, we are monitoring this potential low-pressure area in advance."
