Nobel Prize money increased

The prize money for the prestigious Nobel Prize will be increased by 9 percent. As a result, the prize money for each of the six categories will be 12 million Swedish kronor, approximately Tk 150 million. The Nobel Foundation of Sweden said Friday that winners will receive the increased amount starting this year.

Nobel Foundation Executive Director Hannah Stjärne said in a statement, “By increasing the prize money, we are maintaining the importance of the Nobel Prize in the long term. At the same time, we are ensuring that the financial value of the prize is maintained over time.”

The winners of this year’s Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Peace, Literature, Economic Sciences and Physiology or Medicine will be announced between October 5 and October 12. This will mark the 125th anniversary of the announcement of the first Nobel Prizes.

The Nobel Prize was established through the will of Swedish businessman Alfred Nobel. The 19th century businessman was the inventor of dynamite. According to information from the Nobel Foundation, when the prizes were first awarded in 1901, the prize money in each category was 150,782 kronor, approximately Tk 1.9 million.
