Fox News poll: 60% say Iran war was the wrong decision

Almost seven months into the US-Israel war with Iran, public support continues to sour as a new Fox News national survey shows mounting voter discontent. A majority of voters now view the initial decision to launch military action as wrong.

Americans believe that the ongoing conflict will ultimately render the US less safe. Voters increasingly feel that the Trump administration operates without a defined strategy to bring the war to an end.

According to the survey, 71 percent - or seven out of ten voters - said the administration lacks a clear exit plan. Breakdown by party affiliation highlights deep skepticism, with 95 percent of Democrats, 83 percent of independents, and 43 percent of Republicans sharing this view.

Moreover, 60 percent told US military action against Iran was the wrong decision, while 37 percent say it was right, widening the margin to 23 points, up from 17 points in June (58 percent to 41 percent).

When voters identify the most critical issue facing the nation in their own words, only 4 percent point to Iran, and a miniscule 1 percent mention overall foreign policy. Instead, 34 percent of voters identify the cost of living as their top concern.

On broader international affairs, voters now express greater trust in Democrats than Republicans to manage foreign policy, giving Democrats a 10-point advantage. This sentiment represents a sharp reversal from the previous midterm cycle in September 2022, when voters favored Republicans by 6 points.

Regarding ongoing international dynamics involving Israel and Ukraine, support for Israelis over Palestinians in the Gaza war has dropped to a record low of 48 percent compared to 38 percent. This finding marks a drop from 54 percent in June and a peak of 68 percent when the conflict erupted in October 2023.

Regarding relations with China, voters across the political spectrum express rare agreement, with the largest shares of Democrats (44 percent), Republicans (47 percent), and independents (44 percent) maintaining that Trump is not tough enough.

Republicans show a slight division on the issue, as 43 percent consider his approach about right.
