Door locked, bloodied body found under bed, husband missing

Police recovered the body of a 25-year-old woman named Ianur Begum from under a bed at a house in Kadamtali in the capital. She had told her mother about an argument with her husband the previous night. The next morning, her younger brother went to the house and found the door locked from outside. After breaking the lock and entering the room, he saw blood stains and then found Ianur’s bloodied body under the bed. The victim’s husband Jewel has been missing since the incident.
Police recovered the body around noon on Friday from a sublet apartment on the right side of the second floor of GM Kader’s five story building at 670 Goli in Kadamtali. After completing legal procedures, the body was sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the afternoon for an autopsy.
Kadamtali Police Station SI Kamrun Nahar said police initially suspect that Ianur was killed by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon. Her husband Jewel has not been found since the incident.
Police said based on information from the family that Ianur and Jewel rented the apartment about three months ago. Ianur had been married before. She has a five-year-old son from that marriage after the couple divorced. The child currently lives with his maternal grandparents.
According to the family, Ianur also married Jewel after eloping. The couple frequently argued after starting their new household.
According to information provided by the family to police, Ianur and her husband had an argument on Thursday night as well. Ianur later told her mother about the matter. What happened afterward remains unclear. On Friday morning, Ianur’s younger brother Md Imam Hossain went to the house after failing to reach his sister by phone. He found the door locked from outside. Suspecting something was wrong, he broke the lock and entered the room. He saw blood stains on the floor and later found Ianur’s body under the bed.
Police said Jewel has been missing since the incident. He works as a vehicle supervisor. Police are searching for him while investigating the motive for the killing and who was involved in the incident.
Ianur was the daughter of Hanif Howlader of Goabaria village in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali. She had started her new household only three months ago.
