A tragic road accident in Faridpur claimed lives of five people—including four members of a family—who were traveling for medical treatment.
Md. Alamgir Hossain (58), a resident of Madaripur, was on his way to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital for treatment of an eye ailment. He never made it to the hospital. He, along with four others, died in a devastating collision on the way.
The accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Sunday at the Shankarpasha bus stand area on the Dhaka–Barishal Highway in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur. A passenger bus operated by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) collided head-on with an ambulance.
Those killed were identified as Md. Jahangir Molla (62), Alamgir Hossain Molla (58), Khurshida Begum (45), Majeda Akhter (48)—all residents of the Mostafapur area of Madaripur—and the ambulance driver, Kawser (25). Four of the victims were members of the same family; the fifth was the driver.
According to highway police and local sources, the ambulance was traveling from Madaripur to Faridpur when it collided head-on with the Dhaka-bound BRTC bus. The impact crushed the ambulance, killing five people—three men and two women—on the spot.
Ambulance driver Kawser became trapped inside the wreckage. Fire service personnel cut through the vehicle seats to recover his body. All five bodies were later taken to Bhanga Highway Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge Md. Helaluddin of the Bhanga Highway Police Station said that upon receiving the report, teams from the Nagarkanda Upazila Fire Service, Nagarkanda Police Station, and highway police rushed to the scene and began rescue operations.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted for a short time following the crash. However, police and fire service teams quickly cleared the scene and restored normal traffic flow.
