1 dead as bus plunges into Barishal pond

A man died and several others were injured when a bus plunged into a pond at the Goriarpar area along the Barishal-Banaripara road in Barishal on Saturday morning.
Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Malek, 70.
He said the bus carrying passengers was traveling from Shorupkathi, Pirojpur toward Barishal Central Bus Terminal. En route in the Goriarpar area, the driver lost control, causing the bus to fall into a pond beside the road. With the help of locals, many passengers were rescued, from among whom the body of Malek was recovered.
The other injured passengers were rescued and sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Rafiqul added that police and fire service personnel arrived at the scene and initiated operations to salvage the bus.
