DMP arrests 515 in anti-crime crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered various types of weapons along with marijuana, heroin, Yaba, and foreign liquor, and arrested 515 people during a 24-hour special operation in Dhaka.
DMP Media and Public Relations Division Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Niaz Mehedi confirmed the matter on Saturday. DMP said a total of 47 cases have been filed at various police stations.
According to the DMP, the police conducted these drives as part of regular anti-crime and anti-narcotics operations. In these drives, the Mirpur Division made the highest number of arrests, detaining 120 people.
Moreover, DMP reported that 92 people were arrested in the Tejgaon Division, 76 in Motijheel, 64 in Wari, 46 in Uttara, 37 in Gulshan, 34 in Lalbagh, 30 in Ramna, and 16 people were arrested in operations conducted by the Detective Branch (DB).
DMP added that 2 foreign pistols, 2 magazines, 10 rounds of bullets, 3 cleavers, 5 knives, and 53 pieces of iron nails along with parts of exploded cocktails were recovered from the arrestees.
Moreover, 94.350 kilograms of marijuana, 11,167 pieces of Yaba, 121.3 grams of heroin, 3 bottles of foreign liquor, and 20 cans of beer were recovered. As evidence, 1 private car, 5 mobile phones, and cash amounting to Tk 7,200 were seized.
