Man poisons 3 children, then himself in Sunamganj

A man drank poison after forcing his three children to consume poison, resulting in the death of all three children at Uttar Bardal Union in Tahirpur, Sunamganj on Saturday.

Badaghat Police Investigation Center In-Charge Hossain Mohammad Arafat confirmed the matter. The deceased children have been identified as Mawa Akhtar, 10, Tamim Mia, 7, and Shamim Mia, 2. Their father, Rafat Ali, 38 is in critical condition.

In-Charge Arafat said Rafat gave poison to his three children and then ingested poison himself at night. In the morning, upon learning of the incident, neighbors and relatives rescued them and brought them to Dr Hafiz Uddin Complex in Badaghat Bazar.

Following medical examinations, the doctor declared all three children dead. Rafat was transferred to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.

In-Charge Arafat added, “The reason behind the poisoning is not yet known. Police are working on the matter. The bodies have been recovered for autopsy. Legal action will be taken.”
