BRTC launches special bus service for women folks

  • 10 buses will operate in Dhaka, and two each in Bogura and Chattogram; all drivers and assistants will be women.

BRTC launches special bus service for women folks

'Women's Bus Service' will be written on the pink buses — Agamir Somoy.

The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is launching a special bus service exclusively for women in Dhaka. The service will start operating from Tuesday afternoon, with a total of ten buses plying various routes in Dhaka, along with four additional buses in Bogura and Chattogram. These buses will be painted pink and will bear the inscription "Women Bus Service" on their sides. Both the drivers and their assistants will be women.

The initiative has been taken to make public transport safer and more comfortable for women. According to BRTC's designated routes, these buses will connect important areas of the capital.
BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Mollah told reporters that the programme will be inaugurated on Tuesday morning. If passengers are available, the buses will run from the afternoon of that day. From Wednesday onward, the women's bus service will operate in full swing. Initially, ten buses will run on various routes in Dhaka, and four more will operate in Bogura and Chattogram. The number of buses may be increased later.

According to BRTC documents, buses under the Motijheel bus depot will operate on two routes. One route is New Market (Coca‑Cola) to Motijheel: the bus will go from Coca‑Cola, New Market, North Badda, Middle Badda, Merul Badda, Rampura, Abul Hotel, Malibagh, Kakrail, Paltan, and Gulistan to Motijheel. The other route is Taltala to Motijheel: the bus will travel via Taltala, Khilgaon Railgate, Basabo, Buddhist Temple, Mugda, Kamalapur Railway Station, Arambagh, Shapla Chattar, and Secretariat to Motijheel.

Buses from the Jatrabari depot will operate on the Demra Staff Quarter to GPO route. The bus will go from Demra Staff Quarter, Bansher Pool, Kazla, Jatrabari, Janapath Mor, Gulistan, Paltan, Secretariat, and Matshya Bhaban up to GPO.

Under the Kallyanpur depot, there will be a Mirpur‑10 to Motijheel route. The bus will travel from Mirpur‑10, Technical, Kallyanpur, Shyamoli, Asad Gate, Kalabagan, Shahbagh, and Paltan to Motijheel.

Two routes have been assigned under the Mirpur bus depot. One is Mirpur to Motijheel: the bus will go via Mirpur‑12, Mirpur‑10, Mirpur‑1, Technical, Shyamoli, Farmgate, Shahbagh, Gulistan, and Motijheel. The other is Mirpur‑12 to Motijheel: the bus will run through Mirpur‑12, Mirpur‑11, Mirpur‑10, Kazipara, Sheorapara, Farmgate, Shahbagh, Press Club, Gulistan, and Motijheel.

Additionally, under the Narayanganj bus depot, a bus will run on the Narayanganj‑Dhaka route, travelling via Chashara, Shimrail, Stadium, Balughat, Bhuighar, Signboard, Rayarbagh, Shonir Akhra, Tikatuli, Gulistan, and Motijheel.

Under the Mohammadpur depot, there will be a Mohammadpur to Motijheel route, going through Mohammadpur, Shankar, Dhanmondi‑15, City College, New Market, Elephant Road, Shahbagh, Paltan, and Motijheel.

Buses from the Joarshahara depot will operate on the Abdullahpur to Motijheel route, passing through Abdullahpur, Ashpur, Airport, Khilkhet, Bishwa Road, Kuril, Banani, Mohakhali, Farmgate, Shahbagh, Press Club, Gulistan, and Motijheel.

Under the Gazipur bus depot, a bus will run on the Gazipur to Airport route, travelling via Gazipur, Shibbari, Gazipur Chourasta, Malek's Bari, Board Bazar, Gazipura, College Gate, Station Road, Abdullahpur, and Ashpur up to the airport.
Outside the capital, two buses will run on the Sherpur‑Matidali route in Bogura, and two buses will operate on the Kalurghat‑Patenga route in Chattogram. The Chattogram buses will travel from Kalurghat, Kaptai Road's head, Bahaddarhat, Muradpur, Gate No. 2, GEC intersection, Lalkhan Bazar, Tigerpass, Dewanhat, Chaumuhani, Agrabad, Barek Building, Freeport, and Katgor, continuing up to Patenga.
