Oli Ahmed’s nomination paper declared valid in presidential election

The Election Commission (EC) has declared the nomination paper of Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, the candidate of the 11-party alliance, valid for the country’s 23rd presidential election.
His candidacy was declared valid today, after scrutiny of the nomination papers.
Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has been nominated for the presidency by the 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat e Islami.
Oli Ahmed is the chairman of the LDP. The party is a partner of the 11-party alliance. The National Citizen Party (NCP) is also one of the alliance’s partners.
Two nomination papers were submitted on behalf of Oli Ahmed. His first nomination paper was declared valid. Dr. Sharifur Rahman was the proposer, while Narayanganj 4 MP Md. Al Amin was the seconder.
On the day, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin scrutinized the nomination papers at the Election Commission building in his capacity as the election officer.
Later, Jamaat leader and Dhaka 16 MP Colonel (Retd.) Md. Abdul Baten said at the Election Commission building that two nomination papers had been submitted for Oli Ahmed. Since the first one was declared valid, there was no need to scrutinize the second one.
On Sunday, August 9, the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami announced LDP Chairman Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed as its candidate in the presidential election.
The presidential election will be held on August 20. According to the announced schedule, if there is more than one candidate, voting will take place in the National Parliament session chamber from 2 pm to 5 pm that day. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin will serve as the election officer.
