Youth held for hacking girl’s hand in Meherpur

Police detained a youth on allegations of hacking and injuring a college girl, her father and mother around 1:30 am on Wednesday in Meherpur city.
Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter. The youth has been identified as Sayan.
The injured individuals are Salim Hossain, an electronics businessman from the Lord Market area, his wife Rebeka Khatun, and their daughter Smriti Akter.
OC Humayun said Sayan entered Salim’s house and launched an attack on Smriti with a sharp weapon, hacking off her right hand above the wrist.
Hearing her screams, Smriti’s parents rushed to help, but Sayan attacked them as well. Then locals rushed the victims to the Meherpur 250-Bed General Hospital. Later, as their conditions deteriorated, doctors referred them to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
OC Humayun added that the investigation is underway.
