Bidisha Ershad, second wife of former president and late Jatiya Party founding chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, has been arrested by police. She was arrested from her residence in Gulshan in the capital at around 20:30 on Tuesday.
Gulshan Police Station Officer in Charge Daud Hossain confirmed that Bidisha was arrested in a fraud case. The OC said there was an arrest warrant against her issued by the court.
Earlier in May, a court sentenced Bidisha to two years in prison in the fraud case. She was also fined Tk 10,000. In default of payment, she was sentenced to an additional one month in prison. The court also issued an arrest warrant against her on the same day.
According to the case documents, businessman Mosharraf Hossain Sikder filed the case with Gulshan Police Station in 2008. He accused Bidisha of fraud over the proposed sale of an apartment at President Park in Baridhara in the capital.
After the court’s verdict in the long running case, an
arrest warrant was issued against Bidisha. Police arrested her as part of
executing that warrant.
