Fakhrul met Bhutan King at Dhaka airport

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a courtesy meeting with King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at the airport as he made a stopover in Dhaka on his return journey from Singapore.
President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam confirmed the information in a press release on Wednesday morning. According to the release, the special flight carrying the Bhutanese King landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on its way from Singapore to Bhutan.
During the one-hour stopover, Fakhrul welcomed the him at the airport’s VVIP lounge. They cordially discussed various matters of mutual interest.
He invited Wangchuck and members of the royal family to visit Bangladesh at their convenience. In response, Wangchuck invited Fakhrul and the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit Bhutan at their convenience.
Wangchuck also congratulated and extended his well wishes to Fakhrul on assuming office as president.
During their discussion, Fakhrul said, “A deep and historic relationship exists between Bangladesh and Bhutan. Bhutan always holds a special place in our hearts, because Bhutan was the first country in the world to recognize Bangladesh on 6 December 1971.”
He also recalled with deep respect the special affection and goodwill toward Bangladesh shown by King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the father of the Bhutanese King.
Wangchuck briefed Fakhrul about his “Gelephu Mindfulness City” project. He also sought Bangladesh’s participation and cooperation in this initiative. Fakhrul expressed deep interest in the project and praised it.
The courtesy meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, the Ambassador of Bhutan, and senior officials of the Bangladesh government.
