Bangladesh appoints Abdul Muhith as new high commissioner to UK

The government has appointed Muhammad Abdul Muhith as Bangladesh’s high commissioner to the United Kingdom. Muhith was serving as rector of the Foreign Service Academy.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification regarding the appointment on Tuesday.

According to the notification, the appointment has been made on the condition that Muhith’s unused post retirement leave (PRL) and related benefits will be suspended. He will also have to relinquish any employment with any other profession, business or government, semi government, private institution or organization.

It further said that his remaining tenure as rector of the Foreign Service Academy will be canceled from the date he joins. He has been appointed as Bangladesh’s high commissioner to London on a contractual basis for two years with the rank of Grade 1. Other terms of the appointment will be determined in accordance with the Government Service Act and relevant regulations.

Abida Sultana was the most recent high commissioner to the United Kingdom. The position had remained vacant since she was recalled in March. Md. Nazrul Islam has been serving as acting high commissioner.
