News has spread in Patharghata of Barguna that the bodies of five fishermen who went missing after the fishing trawler ‘FB Barkat’ sank in the Bay of Bengal have been recovered. Families who had been hoping their loved ones would return alive are now mourning.

The information that the bodies were found in the deep sea on Tuesday afternoon has spread among the families of the missing fishermen. Relatives said the owner of the sunken trawler, Badal Molla, informed them about the matter. He is on the trawler that went to search for the missing fishermen yesterday.

The missing fishermen are Nur Alam (37), Kawsar (30), Saikul (33), Ibrahim (28), and Bellal (22), from Patharghata Sadar Union.

Kawsar’s uncle Md. Harun said, “We learned that five people have been found. They have all died. We were informed that they had left the sea with the bodies.”

Local resident Sumon Molla reported the news of the recovery of the bodies quoting trawler owner Badal Molla. He said, “Badal Molla called me on my mobile phone in the morning and told me that the bodies of the missing fishermen had been found. They have left the sea with the bodies.”

The ‘FB Barkat’ sank on Monday afternoon with 13 fishermen aboard amid a severe storm and rough waves. Eight fishermen remained afloat in the sea for around two hours.

They were rescued after another fishing trawler reached the scene. Two trawlers were sent to the deep sea by the District Fishermen Trawler Owners Association to search for the missing fishermen.
