New Titas gas well begins production to ease crisis

To address the country’s ongoing gas crisis, 12.5 million cubic feet of gas per day is set to be added to the national grid from well number 28 of the Titas gas field in Brahmanbaria.
Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) confirmed the matter in a press release. Following the completion of drilling and production testing, State Minister Aninda Islam Amit inaugurated the well on Saturday.
According to the release, the well was drilled under the project titled “Drilling of 4 Evaluation-cum-Development Wells in Titas and Kamta Fields” aimed at increasing gas supply to the national grid.
An agreement was signed with the Chinese firm CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited (CCDC) on 10 April 2025, for drilling the well.
Under the agreement, drilling work on Titas well number 28 commenced on 15 December 2025. Drilling was completed on 19 June. The depth of the well is 3,061 meters (measured depth) or 3,489 meters (true vertical depth). Then the well’s Drill Stem Test (DST) and production testing were completed.
BGFCL said around Tk 200 crore was spent to drill the well. It is expected that 12-13 million cubic feet of gas can be produced daily.
The release added that under the government’s 100-well drilling plan to boost national gas supply, various development activities - including drilling new wells, workover of closed wells, and geological surveys across different operational areas of BGFCL - are underway.
