The government has taken an initiative to develop the Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo into an amusement center equipped with modern facilities. A team of experts will soon visit the site to assess the feasibility of upgrading the zoo along the lines of a safari park. Further planning and implementation will proceed based on their recommendations.
The State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, shared this information with journalists today, Monday, at 11:30 AM after inspecting the Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo.
The Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, accompanied him during the visit. They toured various animal habitats, rides, and other facilities within the zoo.
The State Minister pointed out that the Central Park and Zoo was once one of the primary entertainment hubs in Rajshahi. However, due to prolonged mismanagement and corruption, it lost its heritage and faced an existential crisis. He assured that the government will take the necessary steps to reconstruct it into a modern and attractive recreation center, aligning with public expectations.
He added that an investigation will be launched to trace the animals that were previously relocated from the zoo, determining their current whereabouts and conditions so that appropriate action can be taken.
During the visit, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku also announced that an initiative has been taken to establish a modern meat processing center in Rajshahi. The Rajshahi City Corporation has already identified a potential site for the project, and the ministry will take the required measures to ensure safe meat preservation and marketing.
Praising the efforts of Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, the State Minister highlighted that visible progress has been made within a short period regarding city cleanliness, waterlogging mitigation, and development activities. Concurrently, various development projects, including tree plantation drives, are ongoing.
The Director (Administration) of the Department of Livestock Services, Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman; Director of the National Zoo, Dr. Md. Shahinur Alam; Chief Executive Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation, Md. Rezaul Karim; and other senior officials concerned were present during the inspection.
