Chattogram WASA’s monthly revenue collection surpasses Tk 26 crore

The monthly revenue collection of the Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has exceeded Tk 26 crore for two consecutive months. For a long time, the agency’s monthly revenue collection had remained between Tk 18 crore and Tk 20 crore. The increase came after WASA formed eight special teams to conduct field-level operations to recover outstanding bills.
Chattogram WASA on Wednesday (September 16) honoured the field-level employees involved in collecting outstanding revenue. At a ceremony held in the agency’s boardroom, three meter inspectors who collected the highest amounts of outstanding revenue were awarded crests, while certificates were presented to the team members.
According to Chattogram WASA’s revenue collection figures for August 2026, the agency collected a total of Tk 26 crore 43 lakh 14 thousand 233 last month. Of this, Tk 24 crore 44 lakh came from water bills. This included Tk 12 crore 7 lakh from current bills and Tk 12 crore 37 lakh from outstanding bills.
In addition, Tk 83 lakh was collected in surcharges, Tk 47 lakh from deep tube-well fees, and Tk 44 lakh from new connection fees. In July, the agency had collected Tk 26 crore 80 lakh.
According to WASA data, the agency’s total outstanding revenue stands at approximately Tk 259 crore. Of this, Tk 71 crore 52 lakh is owed by various government departments, while Tk 187 crore 43 lakh is owed by general customers.
WASA recently formed eight teams to recover outstanding revenue. The teams are conducting on-site inspections of connections belonging to customers with outstanding bills exceeding Tk 25,000 and taking steps to recover the dues.
Over the past two months, the initiative has not only focused on recovering outstanding bills but also on collecting updated customer information, enriching the agency’s database, and identifying illegal connections and unlicensed deep tube wells.
Speaking as the chief guest at the award ceremony, Chattogram WASA Managing Director Engineer Selim Md. Jane Alam said, “Special importance is currently being given to revenue collection. The teams formed for this purpose are working area by area to encourage customers with outstanding bills to make payments. Previously, we worked on recovering dues exceeding Tk 50,000. This time, we are focusing on customers with outstanding bills exceeding Tk 25,000.”
The ceremony was chaired by Chattogram WASA Deputy Managing Director (Finance) Sharmin Akter. Deputy Managing Director (Administration) Sharmin Alam, Deputy Managing Director (Engineering) Bishnu Kumar Sarker, Secretary Shahida Fatema Chowdhury, Chief Engineer Maksud Alam, Commercial Manager Sajia Parvin, and Chief Revenue Officer Ruman Dey were also present.
