Chinmoy breaks down in tears at mother’s funeral

Former ISKCON organizer Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari attended his mother’s funeral after being released on parole. He broke down in tears while standing before his mother’s body.
Police took Chinmoy to Pundarik Dham in Mekhal village of Hathazari upazila at around 5 p.m. Thursday under tight security. He first stayed at the main temple for some time. He was then taken to his mother’s body. Relatives and a large number of devotees were present there in the rain. Chinmoy and his relatives broke down in tears.
Chinmoy then accompanied the body to the Gokul cremation ground at Pundarik Dham. He took part in the kirtan. After staying there for around half an hour and completing the religious rituals, he returned to the main temple.
Chinmoy’s mother, Sandhya Rani Dhar, 71, breathed her last at Pundarik Dham on Thursday morning. Following a request from the family, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia, who is serving as the district magistrate, allowed him to be released conditionally for five hours due to his mother’s death. A team of district police took him out of jail at 4 p.m.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Chattogram’s Hathazari Circle Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz said, “Chinmoy Krishna Das took part in his mother’s cremation according to religious rituals. A sufficient number of police personnel have been deployed in and around Pundarik Dham. He will be sent back to jail within the stipulated time.”
Jailed Chinmoy was a servitor at Pundarik Dham. His birth name is Chandan Kumar Dhar. Chinmoy is also the spokesperson of an organization called Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote. He has been in jail since his arrest on November 25, 2024, in a sedition case filed over allegations of insulting the national flag. He faces a total of six cases including the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
