Iran strikes Jordan airbase as US trade blows in Hormuz

Iranian state media reported that projectiles struck several areas in Iran’s Sirik, triggering several explosions across the coastal region, including Minab County and Qeshm Island.
As the US and Iran trade strikes on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward Jordan’s Al-Azraq airbase, which hosts US military assets and personnel, in what it termed retaliatory attacks.
Jordanian Armed Forces said air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 18 of 20 missiles overnight on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning, while two fell in open areas, leaving no reported casualties.
Roughly eight F-15s sustained light damage and returned to service, but a strike hit an A-10 Thunderbolt, commonly known as the Warthog, causing it to lose a wing.
The attack formed part of a wave of Iranian retaliatory strikes following US statements on Tuesday that American forces targeted five Iranian oil tankers after Tehran attempted to target a US Navy warship.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that its forces struck eight tankers, two warships, and the air base in Jordan. According to the report, US forces stationed in Jordan launched more than 30 Patriot missiles to intercept the incoming Iranian projectiles.
