Ashulia triple murder linked to secret love affair

A dispute over a secret love affair led to a physical altercation. In the heat of the moment a single kick killed a woman and her unborn child. Later during a struggle her husband was also strangled to death with a gamcha. The killer then left the bodies on the bed locked the room from outside and fled.
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has uncovered such shocking information in connection with the recovery of the partially decomposed bodies of a couple and their newborn from a locked room in Jamgora in Ashulia, Dhaka.
Within just three days of the incident PBI Dhaka District claimed to have solved the mystery of the murders and arrested a man named Moniruzzaman Hridoy. Nazma Khatun’s mobile phone and handbag were recovered from him. After his arrest Hridoy confessed to his involvement in the incident in a statement recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a court.
On September 5 local residents informed police after detecting a foul smell coming from Room 56 on the second floor of Hazrat Ali’s house in Jamgora. Police opened the locked room and recovered the partially decomposed bodies of Alomgir Kabir, 45, his wife Nazma Khatun, 39, and a newborn baby.
In this case Nazma’s elder sister Shapla Begum filed a murder case with Ashulia Police Station. Alongside the police investigation PBI also began a shadow investigation into the case.
Shocking information emerges in PBI investigation
Moniruzzaman was arrested from Narsinghpur in Ashulia on Tuesday night. PBI Dhaka District Police Superintendent M N Morshed confirmed the information on Wednesday.
He said Moniruzzaman had a previous acquaintance with Alomgir. Moniruzzaman had been in a romantic and physical relationship with Nazma even before her marriage to Alomgir. After the relationship became known Alomgir developed a dispute with Monir. On the day of the incident Nazma and Alomgir brought Monir to their home. There they argued and got into a fight over the old relationship. At one-point Alomgir assaulted Monir and Nazma hit him with a broom. During a counterattack Monir kicked Nazma in the abdomen. Nazma and her unborn child died as a result. Alomgir then attacked Monir with a cooking spatula and a pipe. During the ensuing struggle Alomgir died after being strangled with the gamcha in Monir’s hand according to the investigation.
Monir then placed the bodies of all three victims on the bed locked the room and fled. He took Nazma’s mobile phone national identity card and handbag with him. PBI later recovered the items as evidence from his rented home in Narsinghpur.
Monir had previously been a suspect in a 2022 murder case. PBI said a charge sheet was filed against him in that case in 2023.
