Preparations are underway to receive Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in New York, United States on 25 September.
US BNP and its associate organizations are hosting the event at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. Tarique will arrive in New York on 21 September to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations, where he is scheduled to deliver his address to the General Assembly on 24 September.
The speech is considered to be prestigious for Bangladesh, as Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will preside over the session while Tarique speaks. Bangladesh is presiding over the United Nations General Assembly after 40 years.
There is also a possibility of a meeting between Tarique and US President Donald Trump during his stay in New York. A diplomat from the Bangladesh Mission to the United Nations told Agamir Somoy that while no formal meeting is scheduled, their meeting is possible at the reception hosted by Trump in honor of foreign heads of government.
Bangladesh Embassy in Washington is working on several programs for Tarique, although these have not yet been finalized.
Gias Ahmed, former senior vice president of BNP and President of the Jackson Heights Bangladeshi Business Association (JBBA), told Agamir Somoy, “I have discussed various programs with the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the Prime Minister’s visit to New York. US BNP is working to make his visit memorable.”
Meanwhile, former general secretary of the US BNP, Zillur Rahman Zillu, said preparations are underway to organize the ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.
