Four days of rain have thrown life in Chattogram city into disarray. Moderate to heavy downpours have submerged low-lying areas, with water entering homes and shops, leaving residents to endure extreme hardship.
The disastrous weather has also forced the postponement of Wednesday’s HSC examinations.
Patenga Weather Office said 237.5 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours ending at 9 am. The rainfall is the result of a seasonal low-pressure system, and there is a possibility of heavy rain in the next 24 hours.
Meteorologist Mahmudul Alam told Agamir Somoy that along with heavy rain, a landslide warning has also been issued. The seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number 3.
Continuous rain has resulted in flooding in various areas, including Chashma Bazar, Kattali, Pachlaish, Kapasgola, Badurtala, Chandgaon, and Agrabad.
Although the water receded within a few hours when the rain eased, the situation deteriorates again as soon as the rain resumes.
Meanwhile, while various educational institutions in the district were closed on Tuesday due to the weather, schools and colleges have remained open on Wednesday despite the ongoing rain.
