The United States has claimed to have carried out airstrikes on various installations in Iran following attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Simultaneously, reports of explosions have emerged from multiple areas in southern Iran, escalating tensions between the two countries once again.
The US Central Command stated in a briefing that the airstrikes against Iran commenced on Tuesday. They claimed the military operation is being conducted in retaliation for Iranian attacks on three commercial ships navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that multiple explosions occurred in the southern port of Sirik, Qeshm Island, and Bandar Abbas. State television reported hearing at least six explosions on Qeshm Island and at least seven near the port of Sirik. However, no information regarding casualties or the extent of damage is available yet.
It is worth noting that both areas are considered highly strategic for controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes occurred just hours after the US Department of the Treasury issued a statement revoking the general license that allowed the sale of Iranian oil.
