Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has presented Bangladesh’s 55th national budget. As in previous years, the largest share of every Tk 100 in the budget will go toward debt interest payments and the education and technology sector.
An analysis of the government’s sector-wise expenditure plan shows that Tk 15.50 out of every Tk 100 will be spent on interest payments for domestic and foreign loans. The second-largest allocation, Tk 14, will go to education and technology. This allocation pattern highlights the government’s planned distribution of resources for overall national development.
Under sectoral allocations, Tk 11.30 out of every Tk 100 will be spent on subsidies and incentive programs across agriculture, exports, and other sectors. To ensure continuity in public services and administrative operations, Tk 9.10 will be allocated to public administration. Another Tk 8.80 will go to transport and communication for infrastructure development.
A further Tk 6.10 will be spent across various smaller and miscellaneous sectors.
According to the budget framework, Tk 5.70 of every Tk 100 will be allocated to local government and rural development. To ensure healthcare services and public health, Tk 5.30 has been proposed for the health sector. In addition, Tk 4.70 will go to social security and welfare programs, while Tk 4.50 will be allocated for pension benefits for government employees.
The remaining portion of government development and operational spending will be directed toward law enforcement and the energy sector. The budget proposes Tk 4.30 for defense and Tk 4.10 for maintaining internal law and order and public safety. Agriculture, one of the country’s key sectors, will receive Tk 3.70, while the energy and power sector, considered a key driver of the economy, has been allocated Tk 2.90 out of every Tk 100.
