PM Turns Down Foreign Trip of RCC Administrator

The proposal of the Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator to visit France to learn energy-saving technology for street lights has been rejected by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. However, permission has been granted to the Executive Engineer of Rajshahi City Corporation, to this end. The Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation is Mahfuzur Rahman, and the Executive Engineer (Electricity) is ABM Asaduzzaman Sweet.
This information was obtained today, Monday, from the summary of the travel proposal for the two officials of Rajshahi City Corporation, sent from the Ministry of Local Government to the Prime Minister's Office, along with the head of government's directive.
The Prime Minister's directive said if any engineer gains knowledge on this matter, it will be useful for the work of Rajshahi City Corporation. The Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation is not an engineer, so his travel does not carry any significance. Only the proposed Executive Engineer (Electricity) may go on this trip if necessary.
The Prime Minister's directive further stated that in the future, cooperation from BUET and other engineering universities should be sought for such innovative work. When contacted regarding the Prime Minister's directive, the Prime Minister's Press Secretary, Saleh Shibli, confirmed this information.
Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman and Executive Engineer Asaduzzaman Sweet had sought to visit France at the invitation of Signify Bangladesh Limited to visit the 'Signify France Outdoor Lighting Application Center' and learn about new energy-saving technology for street lighting.
The summary for approving their France trip was sent from the Local Government Division to the Prime Minister's Office. Recently, the Prime Minister rejected a proposal for the Chattogram Mayor's visit to the USA to observe mosquito control methods.
Additionally, recently the Prime Minister rejected a proposal for a visit to the USA by Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and five other officials to observe innovative mosquito control activities.
