BFA wants shelving of fertilizer dealer appointment policy

The Bangladesh Fertilizer Association (BFA) has applied for a stay on the fertilizer dealer appointment policy. They filed this application following a court order on a related writ petition.
According to court sources, the Bangladesh Fertilizer Association (BFA) filed a writ petition on September 1, seeking a directive from the High Court to stay the fertilizer dealer appointment policy.
After the hearing, a High Court bench comprising Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury issued an order on September 3 regarding the matter. The court directed the authorities to resolve the petition within the next 60 days.
Following this order, the BFA sent a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture requesting further action. At the same time, the letter demanded that all activities related to the appointment of fertilizer dealers be suspended during this period.
The BFA said that the Ministry of Agriculture had recently issued an integrated policy-2026 for fertilizer dealer appointment and distribution, along with a circular for emergency appointments. However, the BFA claims that some provisions of this policy are contrary to the interests of existing fertilizer dealers, farmers, and other stakeholders, and are inconsistent and illegal. Therefore, they applied to the ministry for a stay. Receiving no response to their application, they subsequently filed the writ petition with the High Court.
When contacted for comment, Agriculture Secretary Md. Selim Khan did not answer his mobile phone. A text message sent later also received no reply.
