The proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year is being announced today (Thursday). To meet the nutritional needs of children, the government has proposed reducing the customs duty on raw materials used in manufacturing infant food.
In the interest of ensuring appropriate market protection for this local industry, a proposal has been made to reduce the import duty on this product from 15 percent to 10 percent.
Currently, imported infant food preparation materials are subject to a 15 percent import duty, alongside the benefit of a full exemption from regulatory duties.
The government claims that to meet children's nutritional needs and ensure a supply of quality and affordable infant food in the country, it is essential to sustain the local manufacturing industry. As a result, the price of infant food in the domestic market will decrease, making it more affordable and accessible to the general public.
