Bangladesh has seen 70 deaths from dengue this year, with three more fatalities reported across the country in the last 24 hours due to Aedes mosquito‑borne dengue fever. This brings the total number of deaths from dengue in the current year to 70. During the same period, an additional 805 people were admitted to hospitals. As of August 16 this year, the total number of hospitalisations from dengue across the country stands at 23,978.

The information was provided in a dengue‑related press release sent by the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday afternoon.

The release said that in the past 24 hours, covering from 8 am on Saturday to 8 am on Sunday, the newly hospitalised dengue patients were distributed as follows: 80 in Barisal division, 82 in Chattogram division, 156 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 149 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 112 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 97 in Khulna division, 65 in Mymensingh division, 55 in Rajshahi division, 7 in Rangpur division, and 2 in Sylhet division.

According to the data, 16 deaths have occurred so far this month. Earlier, January saw 2 deaths, February 2, May 1, June 13, and July 36. This month, 8,668 people have been hospitalised with dengue. So far this year, the highest monthly hospitalisation figure was in July with 9,206 patients, followed by June with 2,907.

Altogether, 22,159 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals this year. Currently, 1,749 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

For comparison, the release also pointed out that from January 1 to December 31, 2025, a total of 102,861 people were infected with dengue and 413 died. In 2024, from January to December, there were 101,214 infections and 575 deaths. In 2023, from January 1 to December 31, a total of 1,705 people died from dengue, and 321,179 patients were hospitalised.
