Bangladesh, Chile discuss free trade agreement

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman held a bilateral meeting with Chile’s Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna on Friday in Manila, Philippines.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the matter on its Facebook page. The meeting took place on the sidelines of an event organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
Both foreign ministers noted the immense potential for significantly increasing bilateral trade between the two nations. They agreed in principle to explore a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.
The ministers also discussed the establishment of permanent diplomatic missions in their respective capitals.
Their discussions covered various bilateral matters, including the import of essential minerals from Chile and the export of Bangladeshi products, such as ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, electrical goods, and leather products.
Khalilur proposed exchange visits for business delegations from both countries to explore trade and investment opportunities. Mackenna expressed his desire to visit Bangladesh soon.
