Gas leak explosion kills 2 in Vatara

Two of the three members of a family burned in a gas leak explosion in Vatara, Dhaka died on Friday while they were both receiving treatment in the ICU of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).
NIBPS Resident Surgeon Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed the matter. The deceased were Shahin, 25, and his niece, Hafsa, 8.
Shawon said, “40 percent of Hafsa’s body and 50 percent of Shahin’s body were burned.”
The condition of Anwar’s wife, Fahima Akter, who also suffered burns in the incident, remains critical. She is in the ICU with 45 percent of her body burned.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning on the ground floor of a residence in the Notun Bazar. The explosion burned three people, who were then rescued and admitted to NIBPS.
Shahin’s brother Sohail added that Shahin was the youngest of five brothers, worked at a clothing store. He had moved in Vatara after getting married six months ago. Their niece, Hafsa, had been visiting the home at the time of the accident.
