Gazette notification issued declaring Mirza Fakhrul elected President

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification declaring Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the 23rd President. The notification was issued on Thursday evening from the Election Commission Secretariat.
The notification, signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, said that in accordance with the announcement made by the Returning Officer and the Election Commissioner under Section 11 of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, and pursuant to Rule 12(6) of the Presidential Election Rules, 1991, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is hereby declared elected as the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
Earlier in the day, voting for the presidential election was held from 2 PM to 5 PM in the Parliament Chamber of the National Parliament Building. Out of 349 voters, 343 cast their votes.
After the vote count, the Chief Returning Officer and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin announced the results. In the election, BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir won with 255 votes. His rival, the candidate of the 11-party alliance, Colonel (retd.) Oli Ahmad, received 88 votes.
