Fraudsters are attempting to embezzle money and steal personal information from citizens by using the name and logo of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority through mobile SMS. The agency has warned that such messages are completely fake and fraudulent.
According to BRTA, scammers are sending mobile messages mentioning speeding fines or outstanding penalties, accompanied by a link to a fake website. Upon clicking the link, users are being prompted to make payments via mobile banking or cards, which go directly to the fraudsters.
The agency further stated that multiple fake websites have been created resembling the BRTA Service Portal. These sites have no connection with BRTA. Some of the fake links sent to users include bspbrtn-gov.cc, bsp.brtagov.top, bsp.brta.vu/bd, bsp.brtas.vu/bd, bspbrtai-gov.cc, and bsapqzc.lat. Citizens have been strictly instructed not to use any link or website other than BRTA's sole official service portal, bsp.brta.gov.bd.
Advising citizens, the organization urged not to click on any links contained in such SMS and under no circumstances to provide personal or financial information. For verification of fines or information, citizens should directly use the official portal or contact the nearest BRTA office.
Upon receiving such messages, individuals are requested to block and report the number as spam, as well as inform the Cyber Crime Unit of the law enforcement agencies.
