A US couple has filed a lawsuit against famous fast-food chain Popeyes after allegedly finding a condom like object in fried chicken. They were outraged after seeing the object in chicken purchased from an outlet in Houston, Texas.
The couple, Justin Howard and Danielle McKinnon, are seeking more than $1.5 million in damages from the company and its parent company over the incident.
According to reports by People magazine and the Houston Chronicle, the couple purchased food from a Popeyes outlet on South Sam Houston Parkway West on July 25.
As soon as Justin Howard bit into a piece of chicken, he saw a condom like object inside. They immediately stopped eating. They became nauseous and anxious, worrying about whether they had swallowed unsafe food and what harm it could cause to their bodies.
On August 3, a lawsuit was filed in Harris County District Court against Popeyes, its parent company Restaurant Brands International and local franchisee Amana Business, alleging negligence and violations of consumer rights.
However, the incident became even more complicated when the couple went to the restaurant to report the matter.
According to the complaint, instead of taking the matter seriously, investigating it or offering a refund, the restaurant employees laughed at them. The couple strongly protested, after which the employees were forced to refund their money.
