Nahid Islam: Many things have changed at July Museum after election

Nahid Islam, the Opposition Chief Whip, has alleged that the memory of Abu Sayeed, the first "martyr" by police gunfire in Rangpur during the anti-discrimination movement in 2024, has not been preserved at the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum.

He raised this allegation this morning (Saturday) after visiting the July Memorial Museum in the capital.

The Opposition Chief Whip said, "Most of the work was nearly completed during the interim government. The current government inaugurated it five months after coming to power. After the election, many things have changed in the museum, especially the absence of Abu Sayeed's memory. We have already informed the authorities about this."

"Some memorabilia related to border killings and Felani were there, but those have been removed. Whether this was done out of fear is unknown. By removing them, they are trying to project good relations with India. But there should be no compromise on this," Nahid added.

The Opposition Chief Whip stated that sovereignty and independence cannot be maintained through compromise. He also noted that some exhibits related to BNP's repression have been increased in the museum.

"The segments on the July uprising should be further strengthened. The roles of private entities, madrasas, and the movement outside Dhaka have not been included here. Familiar faces have been repeatedly highlighted," suggested Nahid Islam.

Nahid Islam expressed his support for making the museum universal. He said, "The museum must be preserved as national history, not as the history of any particular party. In the past, attempts were made to alter the history of the Liberation War. Such things should not happen here as well."
