India is closely monitoring Bangladesh’s discussions with China, including the potential purchase of J-10CE multirole fighter jets and Beijing’s proposal for the China–Myanmar–Bangladesh Economic Corridor, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing of the Ministry of External Affairs, Jaiswal responded to questions on Bangladesh’s engagement with Beijing following the recent China visit by Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman.
“We closely observe all such developments in our region and take appropriate steps as required,” he said, referring to reports that Dhaka is discussing the acquisition of Chinese J-10CE fighter aircraft and considering proposals related to the China–Myanmar–Bangladesh Economic Corridor.
On ongoing discussions surrounding the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project during the Bangladesh PM's China visit, Jaiswal said India has already conveyed its position to Bangladesh.
He added that India’s development cooperation in Bangladesh is guided by a mutually agreed roadmap that is reviewed regularly. “Accordingly, India will take into account all relevant developments in Bangladesh while considering broader policy issues,” the spokesperson said.
