With the 2026 FIFA World Cup knocking on the door, festive celebrations have begun in Bahugram village of Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj. Supporters of the Argentina national football team are expressing their love for their favorite star, Lionel Messi, by constructing a massive 16-foot-high sculpture.
The sculpture, currently under construction through the initiative of local supporters, has already sparked widespread discussion in the area. People of all ages are visiting the site every day to see it. According to the organizers, the construction will cost around 100,000 taka. The work is progressing through financial contributions and voluntary labor from local supporters.
One supporter said, “Messi is not just a footballer to us; he is a symbol of our emotion and love. Out of respect and affection for him, we are building this sculpture.”
The World Cup-related activities will not be limited to the sculpture alone. Arrangements are being made to broadcast matches on a big screen using a projector so that fans can enjoy the games together. In addition, cultural programs and concerts are also planned for spectators.
