Tk 1 crore transaction made in 3 hours in online gambling stirs Mathbaria

At Mathbaria of Pirojpur district over Tk 1 crore was transacted through a single bKash account in just three hours. Following the trail of these suspicious transactions, allegations of online gambling came to light. Later, police raided the area and arrested two individuals. The arrestees were sent to jail through a court order on Saturday afternoon.
The two arrestees are: Pradip Halder (30) of Batajor Harhar village in Gaurnadi upazila, Barishal, and Samir Chandra Kharati (40) of Nali Golbunia village in Sapleza Union, Mathbaria upazila.
Police said they received a complaint that Tk 99,90,452 was transacted through a bKash account in just three hours. Based on that, they were detained on Thursday and Friday nights on charges of being involved in online gambling.
Sub-Inspector Abul Hasan Sikder of Mathbaria Police Station filed a case against them under the Online Gambling Prevention Act.
According to the case's first information report (FIR), on Thursday night, acting on a tip-off, police raided a bKash office on the second floor of Angan Shopping Centre, opposite of Model Government Primary School in the municipal town. There, Samir Chandra Kharati was detained on charges of operating online gambling using various apps. At the time, 17 SIM cards, two laptops, and several mobile phones were seized from him.
Later, based on information provided by Samir, police raided the house of bKash manager Pradip Halder in Batajor Harhar village, Gaurnadi upazila of Barishal district early Friday morning and detained him.
Mathbaria Police Station's Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Helal Uddin confirmed the matter. He said the two detainees have been shown as arrested in the case and sent to court. He added that investigations are ongoing to determine if anyone else is involved.
