Prime minister pledges support to strengthen Bangladesh navy’s capabilities

Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. During the meeting, the prime minister assured him of the government’s full support for the modernization of the Bangladesh Navy and the enhancement of its capabilities.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday and marked the naval chief’s first official meeting with the prime minister since assuming office.
During the meeting, the prime minister congratulated the newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff and expressed hope for his successful tenure. In response, the naval chief expressed his gratitude to the prime minister and sought his guidance and overall support.
The prime minister said, “The Bangladesh Navy is playing an important role in ensuring the sovereignty and security of Bangladesh’s maritime boundary, the sustainable use of marine resources, the security of international maritime trade, and the development of the blue economy.” He praised the navy’s continued contribution to safeguarding the country’s independence, sovereignty, and national security, as well as its role in national development and state building.
The prime minister noted that various initiatives are being implemented under the current government to modernize the Bangladesh Navy and enhance its capabilities. He emphasized the importance of further strengthening the navy as a modern, three dimensional, and technology driven force.
He also expressed hope that under the leadership of Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim, the Bangladesh Navy would become even more modern, efficient, and technologically advanced.
The Chief of Naval Staff said, “In line with the prime minister’s ‘Made in Bangladesh’ policy, the Bangladesh Navy will be developed into a stronger and more technology driven force through the advancement of domestic technology, the expansion of research and development activities, and the enhancement of innovation capabilities.”
He said that the Bangladesh Navy’s shipyards and dockyards are gradually expanding the construction and maintenance of warships and other naval vessels using domestic technology and their own capabilities. He also said that innovations developed through the Center for Naval Research and Development are helping save foreign currency and further strengthening the path toward self reliance in the defense industry.
The Chief of Naval Staff also reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the Bangladesh Navy’s operational capabilities and building a modern, efficient, and technology driven force through the collective efforts of personnel at all levels.
